Poetry Thursday 14 - Topical stuff

An Artist's Impression of the London Stadium

Post Olympic Haiku

Party is over
Winter chills the beach of sport
Who cleans up after?

The idea for this haiku came from the minister of culture, media and sport. He was trying to say that the estimate for the Olympics, which was £2.5 billion and then was increased to £9.3 billion, would be within budget coming in at half a billion less ie. £8.7billion!

Perhaps I am just overly cynical.

Today (13/06/2012)

I just couldn't resist including the following fact for all writers!

In Taiwan on this day 1995, 38 year old Huang Chia-yuan, a failed novelist, attacked six cars with a hammer in the hope that their owners would kill him. He'd already tried other methods recommended in the Complete Suicide Book. Unluckily, as he was being beaten up, he was rescued by police and taken to hospital with severe bruising!

The point is 'what is a failed novelist' in 2012? I would suggest someone who fails to complete their novel.

Today is also the saints day of St Anthony of Padua

St Anthony is venerated all over the world as the Patron Saint for lost articles, and is credited with many miracles involving lost people, lost things and even lost spiritual goods.

LOST

When was it last seen
Fog of Autumn obscures it
A knife through the heart
When the day had walked away
This time it has simply gone

This is in the Tanka style and you may well ask what it is about and the simple answer is it depends who is reading.

God Bless
