Celebrating 90

A celebration of a 90th birthday.

Born 1922

Aaron Copeland, Albert Schweitzer, Arthur C Clarke, Buffalo Bill, Christopher Lee and so the list goes on.

A film showing in the UK December 1933

The celebration I have been involved with this weekend was for my mum. She was born on the 1st July of that year when Al Jolson's hit 'April Showers' was most popular. Two of the leading films were 'Nanook of the North' and 'Robin Hood', one of the many versions and possibly the earliest.
Beer cost 5d/pint about 2.5p nowadays whereas I paid £3 for the same pleasure last evening. A litre of petrol cost the equivalent of 2.25p which now costs us in the UK around 128.9p/litre. Scary! Of course this information does not include wages. For example my grandfather, that is, on Mother's side, was a coal miner and earned £2.77/week.

Another significant occurrence was the formation of the BBC on October 8th of the same year.

How things have changed!

God Bless
