Poetry Thursday 26 - God's Waiting Room

God’s Waiting Room

It looks rather   like a hospital ward
Inmates settled         in flexible beds
Equipment of   all  shapes and sorts
Breathing                    temporary life
 into the                           almost dead
The pantomime         of visiting time
when the              concerned turn up
They sing their cares and articulate their love as they never did previously!
What is all the fuss about there       is nothing new that hasn’t gone before?
Or will go again when it is the         visitors’ turn to puff and pant their last
Do they come to sample the end              - a taster of what they may face?
Are they more interested in bequest?      That may   gravitate    their way with
Suitable  regard sincerely expressed?
Patients  are       patient with all staff
Visitors,    friends,   church goers and
Real caring relatives in equal measure
Behind their          pained expressions
They know what is going on but with
Great fortitude, intelligence and love
Handle situations despite their agony
Or is all of this part of a greater plan?
One in which each one of us has a part
that will be      played out beyond our
control and           even our knowledge
The hand of a greater power is guiding
Us all in precisely the   same direction
But with various methods of progress.
A hospital ward or God’s waiting room?
