Poetry Thursday 34 - A Twilight Existence

A Twilight Existence

It is all normal or so it seems
The life you have but lack of dreams
Dictated life beyond control of me
A yearning, with conscience, to be free
Life is not what was promised

All round people move on – improving
Here small steps are so painful
No right to be jealous of others leaps
Be happy with what is yours
But how do you gauge when always second?

The future – what future can there be?
Death is the only sure outcome
The cloaked figure with scythe pending
I feel the keen edge beginning to bite
Yet small steps represent progress – persevere

Life is precious, God given and vanilla
As age progresses jewels are collected
They decorate the crowning glory of life
They are children, events and successes
And it is good
