Writing the end! - minor characters.

'A book is a friend that does what no friend can do - stay quiet when you want to think!'

 Ethan Small

These blogs on writing have thrown up some interesting comments from author friends. Caleb Pirtle III reminded me of the way some characters are brought into stories briefly and may serve a specific purpose but then refuse to leave! I have one of those. Ethan Small.
Ethan was a delinquent brought in to the story to take a small but significant role in 'The Biter Bit' the 3rd Steele story. He ended up in a wheelchair! The value of Ethan's of the world are that they can show other sides of main the protagonists personalities. Guilt and it's place in Patrick Steele's make-up was the main spin off but Ethan then seemed to develop a life of his own. I have completed the 5th Steele book today and Ethan Small is still there with a minor but significant part to play. These stubborn characters have a useful part to play so cherish them.

The End

This 5th Steele novel, 'Inceptus' has taken longer to write than the previous four. Patrick wouldn't release the ending to me until today. Even though I was in the final chapter a couple of days ago I had no idea how exactly it would all end. When it did I was surprised as it wasn't how I thought it would be and yet I feel happy about the way Inceptus has ended. This is obviously the first completed draft and I need to edit it, choose a book cover, have it uploaded to my publisher completelynovel.com and to order a couple of proof copies. The launch will take place in May I think.

Book covers

Probably too awful to attract many readers.

In deciding upon a book cover without paying a fortune for the design there are a wealth of options that we can delve into on the internet. I try to choose artwork that is representative of what happens between the boards. At the same time I like my own appreciation of colour and form to be represented. It is also necessary not to scare people away from dipping into the book. However, it will always be my story!

I love the colours and shapes in this photo but I am not 100% sure how it relates to the story!

 I like this one

God Bless
