Writing - Words and their powers.

Words a simple song
a minstrel sings
A way of life in his eyes.

The opening lines of a song by one of my favourite groups that sprang to mind when I thought about the direction in which my blog has taken over the last few days. They speak volumes and once again poetically.

This next article is not a story!

Brazil referee decapitated after stabbing player

Football spectators in northern Brazil decapitated a referee after he fatally stabbed a player for refusing to leave the pitch, officials say.
An angry mob stormed the field during the amateur game in the state of Maranhao and stoned Otavio da Silva to death before severing his head.
Police said the murder was in retaliation for Mr Silva stabbing player Josenir dos Santos.

I wonder what words were said at that match?

Roy Williams

Roy Samuel WilliamsOBE (born 1968), is an English playwright.

“Words start wars and end them, create love and choke it, bring us to laughter and joy and tears. Words cause men and women to willingly risk their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honour. Our world, as we know it, revolves on the power of words.”

I wonder what he thinks of the above?

Words

A joiner has his chisel with which to fashion wood
A blacksmith uses fire and power, bending metal to his will
Composers have their notes and instruments to make us all feel good
Writers have all of our words.

An artist has brushes and pigments to create a different view
A chef combines the Earth’s bounty for our comfort
A gardener uses God’s growing things of each and every hue
Writers have the infinity of words.

Teachers pass on the World to their hungry charges
Sculptors hew unyielding stone displaying their thoughts
A seamstress combines the soft and pliable into garments
Writers bend our minds with words

Writers have great responsibility and endless freedom
Writers have blocks and grammar
Writers can create new worlds full of strange creatures
Writers can use the metaphorical hammer
