Poor Tesco

A drop in company profits
and millions still pocketed.
Blame sits squarely on undercuts
but prices have rocketed.

Companies worship the god of growth
forgetting the place of people.
Pockets and purses not bottomless, both
down to government’s fiscal grabble.

Future prospects are bleak
though expert deny it,
claiming just one more tightening tweak
but who believes the bandit?

A fairer share for the majority
would be the kinder solution,
not tax havens for the minority
to protect their ancient institution.

Who knows where it will end?
Perhaps unrest fed rebels
forcing the rulers to bend
and serfs once again in battles.
