An interesting meal for lunch today. It is a solid demonstration of a pantry that is used and replenished on a 'needs must' basis. In other words there is never anything to throw away!
I hadn't shopped for this week so it was a case of haricots with a tomato jou on scorched wholemeal bread, or a variation thereof.
I'm having fun with the Blogger application this morning so I must apologise if the words and pictures appear rather like a piece of Dahlian art!
So spicy beans on toast and I must say that for those curry freaks this is one way in which you can get that kick without enormous outlay.
For the beans
- 200g/7oz baked beans
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- 1 tbsp soft brown sugar
- pinch dried chilli flakes
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
For the bruschetta
- 4 thick slices ciabatta
- 110g/4oz cheddar, cut into four slices
- 55g/2oz streaky bacon, cut into strips and fried until crisp
There is little point in writing instructions as in more complex meals but this is a case of mixing the additives to the beans in a pan and warming them up while toasting the bread and sprinkling on the cheese and melting that before serving.
The end result is very tasty!
