Poetry Thursday 310 - Give and Take

So I was inspired by a gift. It wasn't given to me or one that I had previously given, but it could have been.
Have you ever given anyone something and been full of misgivings? Will they appreciate it, look after it etc.

A Gift

I hope they treat it right,
it took me ages to put together,
they should give it proper care and attention.
Keep it clean.
Feed it regularly.
Polish the outside.
Give it a place of safety.
Give it love.
STOP!
It’s theirs to keep.
Let go!

I suppose you have to think about why give them that particular gift in the first place.

Then of course there was a whole hatful of political stimuli but one stuck its head well above the parapet yesterday.

East Coast Trains

And the Nigriv opened its ungrateful mouth
 like a starving cuckoo chick,
and, in spite of having been fed copiously,
demanded more against the will of the flock.
The Nigriv had earlier been fed lavishly
and was sick but,
unrepentantly, here it was again,
mewling and screaming outrageously.
The owner of the trough, Yrot, was weak
and when the Nigriv demanded more,
even though it was sick,
Yrot gave in.
The Nigriv was to be given more
although the rest of the flock would suffer.

Of course the Transport Secretary must have read my mind because he has reverted the line into public control.

God Bless
